Phone Mitra
As the organization was working even during the pandemic and was providing help through different mediums in the crisis, we were able to observe various things like people’s reaction to the situation, their way of adjusting to the pandemic, the effect of pandemic on various people, etc. One such observation was that when a patient is admitted to the COVID facility, if he/she is mentally strong and fit, he/she shows a better recovery during treatment. This observation led to the Project PHONE MITRA. This project was with a simple motive to make the patients feel good, counsel them and help them recover fast. Our always ready to help volunteers took part in this project, called and talked with various patients and gave them the right counselling for better treatment. The volunteers were trained through small training programs. Regular follow ups were taken from all volunteers and patients to know whether they are facing any difficulties.
The organization was working tirelessly during this crisis. There was lot of confusion, uncertainty and fear among the people. We wanted to help in and every way possible. When it was observed that mental stress, worrying, frustration, anger, lack of sleep, despair, fear, negative outlook, etc. were becoming obstacles in one’s recovery from corona. We knew by giving moral support, positive outlook and counselling we could help covid patients recover faster, we took the opportunity immediately. We’ve always believed that healthy mind and positive emotions can do wonders for a person, and this project helped us execute and create awareness about it.
This program got remarkable response and exceptionally good result. On the request of Mr. Kishor Kale, the organization had started this project for Kolhapur Police officers which were admitted in Sanjay Ghodawat Univesity COVID center. We gave free counselling to more than 500 patients admitted in the facility. This project has been a grand success as 100% recovery rate has been achieved at that center. This facility was closed on 10th October.
The same project was started in Baramati with the aim of providing free counselling to more than 1000 COVID patients in Baramati. With help of our volunteers and Mr. Ajit Pawar (Deputy CM, Maharshtra).
The stress, anxiety and fear a person experiences after knowing he/she is corona positive cannot be explained. These emotions are not just confined for self but also for family. These emotions hamper one’s mental health and the person is unable to have any sort of positive outlook. Helping someone get out of that mental state, giving that person a positive outlook, see that person get better day by and to be able to do that just by a phone call, the experience is astonishing. The happiness and joy we experienced during this project was exceptional. After seeing the patients recover faster, their feedbacks and reviews gave us tremendous satisfaction. We’ve gained happiness in its true sense and utmost satisfaction of being to give fulfill our civil duty towards the society in the time of crisis.
